As Miao people do not have written words in history, the embroidery is irreplaceable for cultural inheritance and historical memories, which is mainly reflected in embroidery patterns. Almost every embroidery pattern has an origin and legend, which deeply carries Miao people’s culture. They also express the thoughts and emotions of Miao people, which is also a display that shows Miao people’s history and life.

2. Decoration 

Miao embroidery is often used in their custom decoration, including collar, sleeve, shoulders, and apron. The pattern is vigorous, stylish, gorgeous, and colorful lively on the custom embodying an original, pure, and liberal future of the Miao people.

3. Token of Love

In several different folk festivals, young Miao girls will wear fancy custom that is made by themselves, which is a beautiful sight. They wear those customs, not only for showing their excellent embroidery skills but also for attracting young man’s attention. That a girl is fancier implies her family much richer, which is essential to help her find a good husband in their culture. Also it is embroidered various patterns in flower belt, shoepad, apron, and flower clothes (wedding dress) is a love token in the Miao people’s culture.
